Cutting Carbon: Shred Station Slices Its Environmental Impacts by Becoming Lifetime Carbon Neutral.

Shred Station, the world’s largest independent shredding service provider, proudly announces a groundbreaking milestone in its sustainability journey. In a UK waste management industry first, the company has achieved lifetime carbon neutrality in line with The Carbon Neutral Protocol.

As a part of its ongoing mission to minimise its environmental impacts – a key pillar of the organisation’s ethos – Shred Station has achieved lifetime carbon neutrality by assessing and offsetting its historic emissions in their entirety. The company, which has achieved annual carbon-neutral certification since January 2019, made the commitment to ensure a climate-positive experience for every customer who has ever used its services since its formation in 2008.

Through rigorous assessments performed by Climate Impact Partners and Nature Positive, Shred Station has successfully neutralised its carbon footprint for its entire lifespan. This accomplishment emphasises the company’s forward-thinking approach, dedication to reducing environmental impacts, and its seriousness about fighting climate change.

A key part of the lifetime carbon neutral journey is reducing emissions wherever possible, which the company has done by using Euro 6 low-emission vehicles, using biofuels, swapping company cars for hybrid or fully electric models, using solar power at its head office, recycling 100% of the paper it destroys, operating with a Zero to Landfill policy, and much more. The company also regularly supports tree-planting projects across the globe and has funded the planting of over 15,000 trees since 2022. Where emission reduction hasn’t been possible, the company has supported reputable and stringently verified carbon offsetting projects including multiple wind farms and reforestation initiatives.

“Our customers are at the forefront of what we do. Becoming lifetime carbon neutral was important to us to ensure that every Shred Station customer, regardless of when they used our services, has been given the same certified carbon neutral experience”, says Simon Franklin, Founder and Managing Director at Shred Station. “Becoming lifetime neutral was the next step in our journey towards becoming a true net-zero business by 2030, and we are now way ahead of our sustainability targets. This is an industry-first and we are committed to lead, and continue leading, by example”.
