Established by letsrecycle.com and now in their tenth year, the awards recognise and reward organisations for their efforts to reduce the amount of resources they waste.
The scheme has more than 500 members and aims to provide a platform for winners to collaborate to reduce their environmental impact.
Entries are broken up into 10 different categories, such as construction or retail and leisure, enabling organisations to benchmark themselves against those in the same sector.
Entrants are assigned a ranking by industry experts under a star system. Five stars, the highest award, means an organisation has invested in the principle of continuous improvement and actively demonstrates Zero Waste achievements.
Four companies received five stars at the ceremony: property development company British Land working in partnership with commercial waste management firm Recorra; facilities management providers Apleona UK; and property management business Derwent London also working in partnership with Recorra.

Climate crisis
Joshua Doherty, the editor of letsrecycle.com who presented the awards, hailed the recipients for tackling the climate crisis by helping to make better use of resources and reduce global emissions.
He noted the scheme is “heartening” due to the level of effort put in by companies, much of which is voluntary.
Mr Doherty said: “The world is facing a crisis on many fronts from the loss of natural diversity through to the harm from greenhouse gases where almost half of the emissions come from producing and consuming food and goods.
“So, the importance of using fewer raw materials and recycling and reusing as much as possible as well as reducing waste is absolutely imperative.”
He added: “What I find particularly heartening about the work of all those who have entered the awards process is that so much of what you do is not compulsory, nor is the level of effort put in.”
Letsrecycle.com and ROAR B2B run a calendar of awards and one-day conferences which can be found here.
