Worker hospitalised after ‘incident’ near Swansea HWRC

Police have confirmed a male worker at the Llansamlet household waste recycling centre in Swansea was hospitalised following an “incident” on 28 May.

In a statement, South Wales Police told letsrecycle.com it received a call from the Welsh Ambulance Service at just before 8.20am following reports of a man having been injured at premises at the Swansea Enterprise Park.

The injured man was taken to Morriston Hospital in Cwmrhydyceirw, near Swansea, the police said.

The incident occurred at the council’s baling plant, located on the right of the picture below.

The nature of the incident and the extent of the man’s injuries have not been confirmed. However, it has been reported in local media that the incident occurred within Swansea’s baling plant and the man suffered “possible life-changing” injuries.

Swansea council confirmed the incident involved a member of staff at their household waste plant in Llansamlet. They said they were investigating and “all relevant authorities” had been notified.

The Heath and Safety Executive (HSE) told letsrecycle.com it was aware of the incident and was “making enquiries”.
