The contract commenced on 1 July 2024 and will last for four years.
Wastewise is expected to handle approximately 14,000 tonnes of mixed kitchen and garden waste per annum.
The organic waste will be processed at Wastewise’s Crewe in-vessel composting (IVC) facility which uses a GICOM in-vessel composting system alongside outdoor aerated static compositing and screening.
Wastewise, which is part of the FCC Environment company, says that over 95% of the waste at its facility is recycled into BSI PAS 100 certified compost which is used as a replacement for peat. The compost is used in various sectors including horticulture, agriculture, and landscaping.

Wastewise says it has recently enhanced the sustainability credentials of its Crewe facility through the energisation of an adjacent 4.1MW solar farm. The solar farm services 60% of the site’s energy needs.
