So, there’s never been a better time to challenge the three-time Waste World Cup Champions Valpak, who are returning to defend their crown at this year’s tournament having beaten Wybone 1-0 in the 2015 final (see letsrecycle.com story).
The fourteenth Waste World Cup again takes place at Northampton University, this year on Friday 2 September.
The tournament, the waste industry’s premier sporting event, will see twenty elite mixed gender six-a-side teams from across the sector compete for the Cup. Places in the 2016 tournament are filling up fast so don’t forget to register your team today.
Teams
So far Bagnall & Morris Waste Services, Biffa, Bywaters, Grundon, FCC Environment, Mick George, Saica Natur, Sharpsmart UK, Suez, Sweeep Kuusakoski, Taylor Bins, Valpak, and Wybone have all signed up for the Waste World Cup.
The tournament features other team prizes including the Shield Competition, currently held by Resource Futures, the Bowl, taken home in 2015 by Viridor Athletic and the Plate Tournament, which was won by Grundon.
Competitors can even win up to £100 if they succeed in any of the Waste World Cup’s three challenges: the famous Taylor Bins Wheelie Bin Challenge, the Crossbar Challenge as well as a special surprise challenge for 2016.
Prizes
Individual prize-winners in 2015 included Max Hadland, winner of the Crossbar Challenge-sponsored by Ceris Burns, and Veolia’s Michael Graves who won the Taylor Bins Wheelie Bin Challenge. Each of the three winners received a cheque for £100.
There will also be a barbecue and sponsored charity bar as well as entertainment throughout the day.
