The framework allows Scottish Higher and Further Education (HE and FE) bodies to access waste services which are confirmed to be compliant.
Adam Wylie, managing director of commercial waste at Veolia UK, commented: “This new framework agreement further highlights our commitment to the education sector and will help the sector through the complex procurement enabling them to meet legal compliance requirements and demonstrate transparency and value-for-money.
“By managing and processing the waste from Scottish Higher and Further Education we will advance the circular economy and achieve carbon reductions which contribute to net zero targets. With sustainability as a key focus, we look forward to supporting the education sector in Scotland and further reducing its environmental impact.”
The services Veolia provides to Scottish HE and FE sectors includes general waste and recycling and will be available throughout Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Borders, Stirlingshire, Central, West and the south of Scotland.
The waste management company will be able to manage multiple waste streams for these institutions, including plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, metal, wood, food waste and hazardous wastes from chemical substances and materials.
This covers initial collection at the point of production, on-site transfer and consolidation to off-site transportation, treatment and disposal.
All hazardous waste streams will include the required regulatory documents for pre-acceptance and disposal. This waste stream will be treated at its centralised Falkirk facility and outbases which Veolia said will help reduce carbon emissions from transport.
Last week, Keenan Recycling was appointed to the NHS North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative (NOE CPC) Total Waste Management III framework. This framework looks to provide a similar service for NHS organisations in the North of England.
