The deal further strengthens Veolia’s position in the East of England following its acquisition last year of the trade waste business of Glazewing, near King’s Lynn (see letsrecycle.com story).
Mick George Recycling says it offers “tailored waste management solutions for businesses of all sizes”, and its customers include shopping centres and football grounds.
Mick George Ltd will continue to operate in its other fields, having grown to become a major supplierto the construction industry in East Anglia and East Midlands.
Multi-collection
Commenting on the acquisition of Mick George Recycling Ltd, Keith McGurk, regional director for the east at Veolia UK, said: “Veolia is pleased to confirm our acquisition of Mick George Recycling Limited which was part of the Mick George Group of Companies that provided a multi-collection recycling service. This exciting addition to our business portfolio complements the extensive range of collection services we offer in the region and strengthens our recycling and treatment facilities.
“Mick George Recycling Limited customers can look forward to Veolia’s support in providing sustainable solutions in recycling and waste management that offer environmental peace of mind whilst contributing to the bottom line. We are pleased to welcome the 50 plus team and look forward to working together.”
‘Future strategy’
In a statement from Mick George on 19 December, Jon Stump, joint CEO of the Mick George Group, commented: ‘’After much deliberation by the board of directors, the conclusion was that the services provided by Mick George Recycling Ltd did not align with the future strategy of the business. This is a consequence of the handling and processing requirements for C&I waste, which deviates from the vast construction expertise which we possess and have been operating for many years.’’
Mr Stump added: ‘’Concentrating our efforts and investment in the C&D waste industry for which we specialise, will allow us to continue to develop the market-leading service we already provide to this sector.’’
The statement from Mick George also added that the acquisition relates solely to the multi-collection Wheelie Bin, FEL and REL services of Commercial and Industrial (C&I) waste streams. All other waste services, including General Skip Hire and RoRo operations for Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste, remain under the control of the Mick George Group, and “customers should continue to contact them for these services”.
