RiverRidge adds food waste vehicles to fleet

Northern Ireland-based waste management comapny RiverRidge has taken delivery of three additional MacPac 110 food waste collection vehicles to its fleet, which now sits at over 150 vehicles.

Legislation set out by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency’s means all businesses that generate more than 5kg of food waste must have a separate food waste collection, and it is the responsibility of each business to make the necessary arrangements to dispose of their waste.

Commenting on the new vehicles, Tony Kirkpatrick, transport and logistics director of RiverRidge, said: “These vehicles are specifically designed for the collection of food waste.  Demand for this service is growing as more businesses are realising the commercial benefits of diverting food waste from landfill in terms of reduced waste costs, alongside the need to comply with legislation from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.”

Mr Kirkpatrick added: “Adding these vehicles to our fleet along with a full repair and maintenance package from SC Rentals allows RiverRidge to maintain our high level of service to all our customers across Northern Ireland.”

Kent firm adds JCB wheeled loaders

Countrystyle Recycling added four JCB 457 wheeled loaders to “further improve” its on-site handling efficiency at its flagship facility at Sittingbourne, Kent.

The JCB 457 wheeled loaders

Countrystyle provides specialist waste recycling, haulage and recovery services for a range of industrial products, including plasterboard, wood and general waste.

Two of the JCB 457 wheeled loaders models will be deployed within the facility’s dedicated plasterboard recycling building; while the remaining two units will operate within the wood yard at Ridham Dock, near Sittingbourne.

Neil Webb, Countrystyle’s engineering & project manager, said: “The build quality of the JCB machines is second to none. We already operate a number of JCB machines including telehandlers and excavators at our Sittingbourne site so we had no hesitation in turning to JCB for our new wheeled loaders.”

Enva further expands waste services in Scotland

Recycling and resource recovery company, Enva, has invested in new refuse vehicles to meet “increasing demand for its trade services” in Scotland.

The company has purchased two brand-new Euro 6 refuse vehicles from Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS) boosting its trade waste fleet to over 30 vehicles

The new vehicles are both 26T 6×2 Mercedes Econic with Hillend Powerlink bodies and fitted with Trade UTL bin lifts. They were supplied in Enva livery with full manufacturer’s warranty, AMCS bin weighing equipment, and 4-way camera systems.

Irvine Morrison, head of transport & logistics at Enva,  said: “We have previously purchased quality used vehicles from RVS but this is the first time we’ve sourced new vehicles from them. The vehicles are precisely the specification we need and they were delivered within weeks of ordering them. Usually we would need to wait anywhere up to 12 months to have ready for work brand-new vehicles like these.”

Monmouthshire chooses Dennis Eagle narrow Twin Packs

Seven narrow Elite RCVs with Twin Pack bodies and specially designed bin lifts have been bought by Monmouthshire County Council to make it easier collecting recycling materials in narrow, crowded streets.

The 18 tonne vehicles on 4×2 Dennis Eagle Elite chassis have split bodies for keeping different recycling streams separate.

The bin lifts, specially modified by Dennis Eagle to meet Monmouthshire requirements, are designed to minimise movement of the bins from the back of the vehicle and enable safe collection of bags and bins in the same round.

Nick Bennett, deputy operations manager for Monmouthshire’s waste and street services, said: “We’re currently changing our recycling regime to bring it more in line with the Welsh Government blueprint and we want to separate glass from other waste streams to increase the quality of our recycled material, so the Twin Packs were needed.”
