There has long been concern among many recyclers and waste management companies that recycling and waste research is frequently duplicated or fails to draw on existing work.
It has just been announced that the contract for a “scoping study” has gone to AEA in association with consultant JBJ Environment and the RSA (the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce).
Entrust, the regulatory body for the landfill Tax credit system, has recently facilitated a series of meetings for interested parties and a steering group, the Information and Access Steering Group has been set up. This group will direct the scoping study which is being paid for by ESART, the research trust set up by the Environmental Services Association.
Dr Maggie Bignall, chairman of the steering group said: “I am delighted to be associated with this project. Among its many potential uses, it is anticipated that the network will be used to inform future R&D; initiatives, to disseminate project output and to encourage innovative team building, as well as making a contribution to the improvement of the general quality of R&D; and its value for money.”
Anton van Santen of AEA, said: “This project is absolutely vital if waste management research in this country is to provide an effective contribution towards achieving more sustainable waste management.”
