Organised by letsrecycle.com and celebrating its 20th edition, the six-a-side tournament welcomed 41 mixed-gender teams from across the waste sector to Beaconsfield Rugby Club, Buckinghamshire, on 30 June.
After qualifying through their respective groups and three knockout games, the stage was set for the final as indisputably the tournament’s best teams collided. Despite a competitive start, the team from Shred Station was able to emerge victorious on the back of two goals in either half.
Winners
Other trophies up for grabs included the Vase, Decanter, Shield and Jug. Teams qualified for these competitions based on their standing in the group stage.
London Energy saw off Business Waste to take home the Vase, the second-tier competition.
The Jug was won by Wellend Wasters after they defeated Shred Station’s second team on penalties.
R Collard picked up the shield with a victory over Suez’s second team, while CJM Recycling bagged the Decanter following a victory over Smith Gloucester.
The sponsors for the event this year were Contenur, Viridor and RWM.
Next year’s tournament will also take place at Beaconsfield Rugby Club and will be held on 28 June.
