The contract, which began in 2009, will see Severn Trent Green Power continue to treat the county’s food waste at its Cassington and Wallingford Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facilities.
Between them, the two AD facilities treat around 100,000 tonnes of household and commercial food waste each year.
Green waste collected from households and household waste recycling centres (HWRC) will be treated at Severn Trent’s open-air windrow composting facility in Hinton.
‘Delighted’
Simon Bussell, commercial director of Seven Trent Green Power, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded this contract extension from Oxfordshire County Council, providing them with a sustainable recycling solution for their food and garden waste for another five years.
“It’s a great endorsement on the service we’ve been delivering since 2009 and we’re very much looking forward to building on this existing partnership, helping them to deliver their own net zero carbon ambitions.”
‘Successful relationship’
Teresa Kirkham, group manager for waste contracts at Oxfordshire county council added: “We are pleased to have extended the contract with Severn Trent Green Power and look forward to continuing to build on what has been a very successful relationship so far recycling food and garden waste from Oxfordshire residents.”
The Oxfordshire AD plants and food waste contract were originally held by Agrivert which was acquired in 2018 by Severn Trent Green Power (see letsrecycle.com story).
