Self-operated weighbridge technology launched

Weightron Bilanciai has launched specialised weigh-bridge technology for remote unmanned waste disposal sites.

The self-operated Self800 terminal can be installed in sites like landfills and transfer stations and the information can be reported back to a central station, removing the need for a permanent weigh-bridge operator.

The Derbyshire-based company has already sold more than 40 units this year and its customers include Greater Manchester Waste and Heathrow terminal five as well as companies across Europe.

Nick Catt, director of Weightron, said: “We are automating the system. It can be used at various sites where they are bringing in dustbin lorries or other heavy vehicles.”

The terminals can be coin-operated for domestic waste or for commercial waste users a designated swipe card system to identify a vehicle can be used.

Detailed information can be stored on the system and recalled by the swipe cards, such as the haulage company, a vehicle's weight when empty and collect data on the loads.

The Self800 can be used for double-weighings for vehicles entering and leaving a site but it can also be used for single weighing. By storing a specific vehicles' tare weight, Self800 removes the need for a known vehicle to weigh in and out of a site where it is tipping or loading, cutting times that vehicles spend on site.

The remote system can also be linked up to a PC via Ethernet and modem to allow for basic information changes and weight data to be viewed from a central computer.

Mr Catt said: “We have supplied Greater Manchester Waste. With the dustbin lorries coming off domestic waste collection rounds, the system can be programmed to collect information, so we can see which area is producing more waste than others.

“Greater Manchester Waste has got another terminal at an office so they can update their data, but the weighing is happening remotely,” he added.

Self800 has also been used at a community waste site in Holland, identifying how much waste each household produces.
