Sector survey highlights desire to improve image

The results of the inaugural survey of members of the RWM & Letsrecycle Live 360 Club has highlighted the appetite within the sector to improve its image and perception.

The survey highlighted that while the sector wants to improve its image, most respondents are confident their business will perform well this year

The RWM & Letsrecycle Live 360 Club is a membership group for the resource and waste management industry.

It provides members with the opportunity to participate in community discussions, surveys and research projects that support the industry with insight and knowledge and ultimately develops the future direction of the RWM & Letsrecycle Live trade show.

The member survey released this month showed that image and perception is the most pressing issue that needs changing, ahead of increased government funding and faster action to address climate change. Other issues such as greenwashing and diversity also featured, as outlined below.

Topics

The survey also asked what the main topic on people’s minds was in 2022.

This showed the Resources and Waste Strategy came top, while the circular economy and artificial intelligence and technology came second and third respectively.

Elsewhere, 70% of respondents believe their business will perform better in 2022 compared to the year before, while less than 4% feel they will perform worse.

Legislation features heavily in the responses as to what currently interests the sector

Focus

The survey also provided insight into what the sector is focusing on.

This showed that many were worried about rising costs, mitigating carbon impacts, contamination, pushing reuse and the circular economy.

Other answers included legislation, improving technology and innovation skills, HR and staff retention.
