REPIC expands into European packaging compliance

REPIC has partnered with Pronexa to offer packaging compliance consultancy across the European market.

The UK-based Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and battery compliance scheme was one of the founding members of Pronexa ten years ago when it operated under the name “weee Europe” (sic).

PRONEXA operates the largest take-back and recycling infrastructure for electrical appliances and batteries in Europe.

Chief executive of Pronexa, Christian Ludwig, commented: “We are delighted that, in addition to the core portfolio of the past, we can now offer packaging compliance solutions and an improved service beyond our own national borders.

“The biggest hurdle for many manufacturers is the practical implementation of legal regulations, especially because these vary greatly from country to country. This is precisely where we support manufacturers, as well as online retailers and importers, who are also involved in extended producer responsibility.

“Individual country specific nuances are to be expected when the reforms are transposed into the respective national laws and our network can provide access directly to a local producer compliance organisation (PCO) on the ground in each country who is familiar with these and who can support them in implementing the requirements.”

“The addition of packaging compliance to the Pronexa network marks a significant milestone in providing REPIC members with a truly comprehensive compliance solution across Europe,” added Bokhari, REPIC’s executive chairman and Pronexa supervisory board member.

“This development supports our shared commitment to offering comprehensive, forward-looking solutions that simplify compliance for producers while supporting their sustainability efforts across Europe.”

The group said that the new name, Pronexa, combines “PRO” for Producer Responsibility Organisations and “nexa” for the networked alliance of these PROs.

The compliance scheme works across 30 European countries.
