Reconomy UK switches to 100% renewable energy

Reconomy has announced that it has switched to “100% renewable energy” across its UK business through a new partnership with Bryt Energy.

Reconomy added that the partnership will see it meet its target of increasing its active annual sourcing of renewable electricity from 86% in 2021 to 100% by 2028. The target has now been achieved four years early in the UK.

The company added that it will also aid its aim to reach net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its value chain by 2040.

Simon Dennett, international procurement category director at Reconomy, commented: “I am pleased that we agreed this partnership for 100% renewable electricity across our UK operations. All our international brands are aligned behind a single sustainable procurement strategy and this, along with many further exciting green initiatives underway, will help us advance sustainability, accelerate circularity and create a waste-free world.”

Diane Crowe, group sustainability director at Reconomy, added: “As a business centred on accelerating the circular economy to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, we are keen to demonstrate leadership in our industry. This partnership will help us in that mission and will support us on our journey to achieving our ambitious sustainability targets.”

Bryt Energy – part of the Statkraft group – is an international hydropower company and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy.

The agreement was brokered by Adalta Energy and will deliver cost-savings of around 20%, while providing real-time data usage through the installation of advanced 15-minute meters.

Ian Brothwell, managing director of Bryt Energy, added: “We are delighted to be supplying Reconomy with zero carbon, 100% renewable electricity* and supporting them in their sustainability journey. We are excited to watch the business accelerate circularity and help businesses make better use of their resources and reduce waste.”

Ed Butler, business development director of Adalta Energy, added: “We are delighted to have been able to support Reconomy Group with their transition to a renewable power supply and look forward to working in partnership with the business on future Net Zero projects.”
