The Midlands-based company, which became part of the Beauparc Utility Group in 2019, reported that the multimillion-pound development uses “market-leading technology and equipment to support the UK requirement for better plastic recycling”.

It will also work to provide solutions for plasterboard, tubs and trays, glass and residual waste, which will be engineered into a renewable fuel source and used within cement kilns for energy or at domestic combined heat and power plants.

The business anticipates employing a further 50 staff to work at the facility.

‘Technologically advanced’

Chris Mountain, Beauparc’s renewable energy director, said that the plant is “so technologically advanced it’s changed the whole face of the recycling industry”.

Mr Mountain continued: “We’re very proud of the site, it provides our UK business with new solutions for managing waste and further enhances the reuse of material and boosts the local and national circular economy. I often show people around and they can’t believe it’s a recycling facility”.

He added that the most “significant” uplift is the creation of career opportunities for local people.

“Commissioning of the new plant means we are looking to recruit drivers, machine operators, production operatives, engineers and shovel and telehandler drivers,” he said.

Tour

The multimillion-pound development was part of a virtual tour with Defra minister, Rebecca Pow earlier in the year to demonstrate the businesses approach to plastic recycling.

Speaking about the technology, Beauparc’s director of logistics and operations, Eamonn Hanley commented: “Beauparc’s drive to provide customers with the very best and most sustainable solutions for their waste is evident as you walk around this facility. We have worked with equipment suppliers from all over the world and developed our own machinery through R&D projects and it’s all come together here in Barkston.”
