The sustainability consultancy said that the move comes as part of its plans to focus more on the top of the waste hierarchy and help its clients better understand good reuse systems.

The new lead, Tom Domen, has over two decades of experience in business strategy in industries including home and personal care, textiles and consumer electronics. He was part of the team that turned startup Ecover into a mainstream brand.

His experience also includes strategic consultancy for industry, NGOs and non-profits.

Domen said: “Eunomia brings an incredible depth of scientific knowledge and modelling expertise to the circular economy transition. I’ve always been passionate about enabling system-wide change, learning from nature, and rethinking innovation at a fundamental level.

“Many of today’s circularity challenges require a complete redesign of how we approach them. The infrastructure we have now is built around collection and recycling, but to create real change, we need to go beyond that.

“We are living in uncertain times, with economic volatility revealing the cracks in our current systems. But with that comes an opportunity to rethink the future, using data-driven models and circular principles to drive meaningful change.”

The new circular economy innovation lead was part of the team who created the first “ocean bottle” made from 50% plastic waste collected from Rio de Janeiro’s beaches.

The role will see Domen lead on and contribute to a variety of reuse and refill projects.

Eunomia’s chairperson, Joe Papineschi, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Tom to the team. His expertise in innovation and future-systems thinking will be invaluable as we look to support clients navigating new policies, such as the PPWR, that mandate integrating reuse into systems for the first time in some instances. As a company that prides itself on aiming for the top of the waste hierarchy, Tom’s experience and strategic vision will play a crucial role in shaping our next phase of growth.”
