ESS Expo survey highlights concern over net-zero goals

A survey run by the organisers of the Environmental Services Solutions (ESS) expo, which the RWM is a part of, has found that environmental service professionals do not believe that the UK will meet its targets of achieving net-zero by 2050.

The survey was conducted through extensive collaboration with experts and stakeholders nationwide.

In the recent National Environmental Services Survey,  just 11% of environmental services professionals in the UK believe that the government will meet its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The survey was conducted in collaboration with experts and stakeholders nationwide and aims to provide a comprehensive examination of the nation’s most pressing environmental concerns.

  • 11% of environmental professionals believe that the Government will meet its goal to decarbonise the economy  by 2050.
  • Greenwashing is what environmental professionals would like to change the most about the sector
  • 59% of respondents think single use plastic items should be banned
  • Funding, rising costs, budgetary pressures and the current economic situation featured heavily in what people listed as the biggest challenges they are facing right now

‘Accelerated action’

According to the survey, the findings highlight the “urgency for accelerated action and collaborative efforts to combat climate change.”

Environmental professionals expressed concern regarding the ambitious goal set by the government. The survey shows this finding highlights the “imperative for enhanced efforts and collaboration to address climate change and transition towards a sustainable future.”

The National Environmental Services Survey also uncovered additional insights that underscore the challenges faced by the environmental sector. Funding limitations, rising costs, budgetary pressures, and the current economic situation all emerged as prominent obstacles to the sector.
