EMR opens Turkish office to handle scrap imports

European Metal Recycling Ltd has announced plans to consolidate its position in Turkey.

The company, which is the largest metal recycler in the UK, is opening a liaison office in Istanbul this month to exclusively handle scrap imports to Turkey from EMR and on behalf of the EMR group. Last year more than 93,000 tonnes of scrap was exported to Turkey from the UK with a substantial chunk of this coming from EMR.

Colin Iles, managing director of EMR, said:
“A liaison office consolidating the group's position in Turkey will enable
EMR to enhance our service to valued steel-making customers operating in
Turkey and help to strengthen the group's presence on the continent.”

EMR's Turkish Liaison Office will be managed
by Necat Konukcu, one of Turkey's most experienced agents for the supply of
secondary metal into the country's steel mills.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Konukcu
said: “I look forward to putting my experience and reputation within the
Turkish scrap industry to work for EMR, which over the last few years has
become established as one of Europe's most respected metal recycling
companies.”
