The 20th anniversary edition of the awards were hosted by television presenter Mark Durden-Smith, at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
European Metals Recycling (EMR) was named as the Recycling Business of the Year, the London Borough of Hackney won the ‘Circular Economy Success’ award. A full list of the 20 categories can be seen below.
Environment minister Rebecca Pow delivered a recorded message, outlining the steps the government has taken on waste reforms.
The president of the British Metals Recycling Association, Susie Burrage OBE, then gave a keynote speech where she praised the activity, innovation and success of the finalists and award winners.
She explained that while it is clear we are moving in the right direction, “I, like many others, am still awaiting policy clarity which will give us the confidence to move forward.”
On upcoming legislation impacting the metals sector, Ms Burrage added : “The BMRA are having ongoing discussions with the UK’s environmental agencies regarding the classification of non-WEEE cables and shredder residue. As things stand, both are expected to be deemed hazardous wastes in the coming weeks and months. Discussions over possible POPS classifications are still taking place.”
