The scheme will initially serve 1,500 households in Liskeard and follows a trial launched for 400 homes in October 1997.
Now, in a partnership with the Cornwall Paper Company Ltd, Caradon residents in the scheme will be given a green collection box and collection sack. These will be emptied on a fortnightly collection round by Cornwall Paper Company.
Materials to be collected include: newspapers, magazines, leaflets, BT phone directories, cans, aerosols, plastic milk bottles, foil and clothing.
If the scheme goes well, the council intends to expand it in 2001 to cover a further 7,500 properties.
Councillor Ivor Nicholls of Caradon said: “This is a marvellous opportunity to provide a recycling service direct to residents’ homes. It responds to the many requests we have received, is value for money and creates a partnership approach with the Cornwall Paper Company which is well established in providing recycling services.”
