Bristol reuse shop to open on Monday  

The shop will open with a 50% off sale between Monday (12 April) to Sunday (18 April).

Items for sale in the reuse shop have been “saved from the waste stream”, with the income generated used to fund and develop the company’s reuse work, and a percentage donated to local charities.

Bristol Waste said that by redirecting reusable items from disposal, the reuse shop helps reduce the city’s waste disposal costs, and helps Bristol reach its “ambitious” recycling targets.

Any items dropped off will be cleaned and quarantined for 72 hours before being put out for sale.

Jo Dainton, Bristol Waste reuse manager, said: “We are so excited to welcome customers back to the shop. With the doors being closed for so long, we have heaps of amazing, unique items ready to be snapped up and given a new home. You could bag yourself a bargain and help Bristol become more sustainable in the process.”

Charity

The shop has been closed throughout the current lockdown, however supported by volunteers, it has donated 154 bikes, 445 mobility aids and 1,269 household items to charity partners, such as the Children’s Scrapstore, Baby Bank, St Mungo’s, Independent People 16-25, Oasis (Children’s Charity), Bristol City Council Homelessness Prevention Team and Aid Box (supporting refugees).

The Bristol Waste Company has also been working with Bristol city council to deliver home starter packs through the Homeless Prevention Team.

The packs help new tenants settle into accommodation with some key items such as crockery, cutlery and kitchenware.

One recipient of the packs, said: “I am truly short of words to say thank you as I can’t thank you enough for the home starter pack packages that were delivered to me. They were all beautiful, I love each and every one of them, especially the blue and white plates, the coffee maker and the cutlery.”
