BPF releases guide to future of UK plastics industry

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) has launched a new hub which aims to support the UK plastics industry through improving efficiency and outlining best practice methodology in a “technology-driven factory of the future”.

Productivity Redefined” was created over two years of collaboration between industry stakeholders and features peer-reviewed expertise. It features a series of guides which are available for free download for all BPF members

BPF described it as: “an all-inclusive hub created by the BPF’s Productivity Committee designed to help companies in the plastics sector address key productivity issues”.

The first release of guides to the hub is intended to be the start of a series of inter-related documents which discuss specific themes relating to manufacturing operations in the plastics industry.

This first edition features guidance on:

  • Industry best practice
  • State of the art developments
  • Data backed evidence
  • Case studies
  • ROI plans

Guides will be released in phases with the first three sets of documents available now:

  • Energy Management (available now)
  • Equipment Effectiveness (part I: Injection Moulding) (available now)
  • Product Design (available now)

Three more guides are expected by the end of the year:

  • Automation
  • Digitalisation (Part I: Real Time MES, Part II: ERP/MRP)
  • Waste Minimisation

The BPF has said that the guides will be revised annually to ensure they keep up with industry standards and innovation. Phase II is currently underway with more documents in the pipeline for 2025.
