Irish utilities company Beauparc Group has acquired Leeds-based skip hire firm LSS Waste Management, strengthening its role in the city and west Yorkshire.

Beauparc says the LSS business, bought on 9 September, will complement other UK businesses within its group, including Associated Waste Management (AWM), which is also based in Leeds. The purchase figure for LSS has not been disclosed.

Brian McCabe, Beauparc’s managing director, said: “We are very pleased to conclude the acquisition of LSS as this adds to our growth strategy in the UK and brings a greater level of scale and processing capabilities to the Group.

“It is our intention to continue with what is already in place throughout LSS, and to build or develop this business even further, ensuring the company continues to grow whilst still providing the quality of service that customers have been used to.

“This acquisition is part of our strategic growth plans for the UK.”

LSS supplies skips, mobile compaction and nationwide hire services to domestic and commercial customers.

RDF

With a workforce of around 100, LSS’s West Yorkshire facility is permitted to process 350,000 tonnes of waste annually and has offtake arrangements for refuse derived fuel (RDF) throughout the UK and Europe. The purchase of LSS means Beauparc will gain additional tonnages for its existing RDF deals.

The senior management team at LSS will remain with the business, Beauparc says.

“We’re proud to have joined a group of like-minded companies”

Nigel Woolford, LSS

Nigel Woolford, the founder of LSS, will adopt a consultancy role and work alongside Beauparc’s operational management structure, led by UK operations and logistics director Eamonn Hanley.

Mr Woolford said: “LSS has served 2,000 customers throughout West Yorkshire and will continue to trade under the distinguished ‘yellow’ brand that was formed in 1984.

“We’re proud to have joined a group of like-minded companies that focus on customer service, technology and constantly striving to deliver new recycling and renewable energy solutions.”

Group

Beauparc operates in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands. Its UK operation now extends to six businesses: New Earth Solutions, Scotwaste, WSR Recycling, AWM, Mid UK Recycling and LSS.

Collectively the group says it has a processing capacity in excess of 3 million tonnes annually. It produces 400,000 tonnes of solid recovered fuel (SRF) and 400,000 tonnes of RDF annually, with fuel supply arrangements throughout the UK and Europe.
