Waste industry expert Peter Selkirk has been appointed executive chairman of Hampshire-based specialist pyrolysis technology firm PyroPure.

Mr Selkirk known for his past work with bin manufacturer Taylor will oversee development and implementation of a strategy that aims to see PyroPure adopted as a standard solution for high-risk waste environments.

The firm which pyrolysis technology to process non-recyclables on a micro-scale level, destroying waste at source and negating the need for collection, transport and disposal.

Mr Selkirks appointment marks the end of a six-year development and testing phase in which PyroPure received investment from the Sustainability Technology Fund.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Selkirk said: Having laid the foundations and developed a small scale and accessible solution to an ever-growing problem, we now have in place the product, the team and the drive to make PyroPure the next big thing in the world of waste disposal.

Changes at the top for Biogen

Biogen finance director Julian ONeill officially replaced Richard Barker as chief executive of the organic waste treatment company this month (May 1).

Mr Barker who will leave Biogen at the end of June – made the difficult decision to resign in order to prioritise his ongoing recovery from leg injuries, sustained in a serious accident earlier this year.

Since joining the firm in 2009, Mr Barker has played a key influencing role within the anaerobic digestion industry, according to Biogen.

He said: I feel privileged to have been part of Biogens fantastic growth story and am proud of the teams considerable achievements during my time at the company. It is very well placed for the future and I am sure that Biogen will continue to see more success in the coming years.

Commenting on his predecessors legacy, Mr ONeill added: Richard has been an outstanding leader to both Biogen and the AD industry and I am sorry to see him step down in such unfortunate circumstances.

As incoming CEO I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue driving the Biogen business forward as one of the prominent players in the increasingly competitive AD market.

BHS Europe names NRT product specialist

Bulking Handling Systems Europe senior sales manager Thomas Baldt has added the title of NRT product specialist to his role.

Mr Baldt has more than 10 years experience in solid waste processing, including three years of experience as a sales manager specialising in optical sorting equipment.

Reporting to BHS Europes managing director Cees Duijn, he is responsible for sales, including solutions from NRT and Nihot, in Austria, Switzerland, Southern Germany, Northern Italy, Slovenia, France, Spain and Portugal.

Mr Baldt said: NRT has been a technology leader in this industry for years; after spending time at NRTs headquarters, it is clear that they provide best-in-class solutions and are committed to innovation.

There is strong demand in Europe for the cutting-edge solutions provided by NRT, and Im very much looking forward to delivering them to this customer base.

Mr Duijn added: We are fortunate to bring in someone of Thomas experience and expertise, as he can immediately step into this role to provide value to both our internal staff as well as our customers. Were very excited to welcome him to the BHS Europe team.”

Biffa IRM appoints new Head of Estate (South)

Biffa Integrated Resource Management (IRM) has appointed Mark Harley as Head of Estates (South), having moved across to the firm from Biffa Waste Services.

In his new role, Mr Harley will visit hundreds of clients sites to identify further opportunities to cut waste from the supply chain.

Mr Harley will help Biffa IRM widen its reach to support the sector in cutting waste and saving on costs.

Commenting on the appointment, he said: Its exciting to join IRM at a time when sustainability really is at the forefront of the choices we make as a society. Its rewarding to help customers achieve sustainable resource management, keep valuable materials in the loop and save them money at the same time.
