Polytag appoints CEO ahead of DRS announcements

Polytag announced Alice Rackley as its new CEO on 1 October as the Welsh company “gears up” for announcements about the widespread deployment of deposit return schemes (DRS).

Polytag is behind a patented ‘tag and trace’ technology which allows brands to assign unique individual codes to each unit of a product, for use in a digital DRS. The company is part of the Econpro group of businesses.

In a statement, Polytag said Ms Rackley would lead the business through a period of accelerated growth and oversee the next phase of technology development.

Ms Rackley said: “Polytag is a passionate supporter of the Welsh Government’s environmental ambition and has an opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering DDRS and EPR for packaging across the UK.”

The former head of UK retail at global data-standards organisation GS1 UK, Ms Rackley also spent 18 months in India overseeing the launch of the Marks & Spencer brand on various marketplaces as part of an 18-year career.

Ormsby joins Anenta as assistant director

Healthcare waste management company Anenta has appointed Kim Ormsby as its new assistant director.

The former vice chair of the NHS’s National Performance Advisory Group’s Sustainability Leaders Network, Ms Ormsby will be responsible for managing waste contracts, overseeing clinical waste logistics, service delivery and waste disposal performance for many of Anenta’s key customers, including NHS England.

Ms Ormsby joins from a previous waste management role within the NHS, where she was involved in analysing, auditing and scrutinising waste functions to improve service efficiency.

She said: “Having worked on the other side of the fence within the NHS, I’ve seen first-hand the number of inefficiencies that occur within the waste management process.

“These can cost authorities many hundreds of thousands of pounds, but it doesn’t have to be that way.”

Anenta does not provide waste collection services itself, instead managing the process on behalf of clients such as GPs, pharmacies or care homes.

“My role means I will always be striving to improve the way the company works and to encourage the whole team to be the best and safest professionals in the industry.”

Cawleys says Ms Clark brings with her more than 20 years’ experience and knowledge in health and safety, with proven experience across “multiple environments”.

WRAP appoints climate change lead

Beginning her role this October, Ms Fisher will work with the organisation’s CEO Marcus Gover to “drive forward” work on climate action across all WRAP’s UK and international programmes.

She will develop new sustainability interventions for the range of supply chains influenced by the organisation’s business programmes, WRAP says, as well as forging a “global community” to support collaborative work on climate action.

Ms Fisher said: “I am delighted to take on this new challenge. This is a hugely important year not just for the UK but for every country on Earth, and COP26 is only weeks away.

“Humanity has a huge task ahead to combat the worst impacts of climate change and I see this role helping to bring WRAP’s work clearly in line with crucial climate action.”

Previously, Ms Fisher led WRAP’s work in launching the ‘Meat in a Net Zero World’ programme in June 2020.
