According to a statement from the police, the incident occurred at 12.10pm on the Main Road area of Condorrat, around 11 miles north east of Glasgow.
A 53-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with “serious but not life-threatening injuries”, the police said.
A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire council told letsrecycle.com that a member of staff was taken to hospital for treatment.
The Health and Safety Executive has been made aware and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
Officers are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who has dashcam footage of the area at the time.
The spokesperson for North Lanarkshire council said: “An incident happened on Friday morning at Main Street, Condorrat involving a refuse collection vehicle.
“A member of staff was taken to hospital for treatment. Our thoughts are with him and we will offer him every support we can. Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed.”
