Liz Parkes MBE made CIWM junior vice president
Liz Parkes MBE has been made the CIWM junior vice president.
Parkes will formally take over the role from Vicki Hughes who has been made senior vice president.
The handover will take place at the CIWM presidential inauguration event at the House of Commons in June this year.
Parkes is currently the deputy director of climate change, chemicals and markets at the Environment Agency (EA).
She has been a trustee of CIWM since 2021 and was previously on the board of CIWM Enterprises.
She was appointed as chair of the General Council by her fellow trustees in July 2022.
Also in 2022, Parkes was awarded an MBE for her services to climate change and environmental protection.
She said: “It’s a great honour to have been elected to this role by CIWM’s Members’ Council, and I look forward to furthering my relationship with CIWM as part of the presidential team.
“On my journey to the presidency, I am excited to continue championing the institution’s vital work in moving to a world beyond waste.
“I am also fully committed to enabling our Early Careers presidential cohort in realising their full potential and inspiring our leaders of the future.”
New senior business development manager at Timberpak
Duncan Jones has joined the Timberpak Pearce team in St Albans as a senior business development manager.
He will take responsibility for developing local authority contracts for the processing of 100,000 tonnes of kerbside collected mixed dry recyclables at its Materials Recycling Facility (MRF).
In addition he will be responsible for developing contracts across the South East for the supply and processing of 100,000 tonnes of wood.
Jones said: “I look forward to being part of the Timberpak Pearce family and getting stuck into a number of exciting projects.”
He comes from the Hertfordshire Waste Partnership where he has worked for 16 years. He has been part of wider local government for the past 30 years.
New European quality manager joins Bunting Magnetics
Bunting Magnetics has appointed David Summers as its European quality manager.
Summers is a chartered member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and a practitioner of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI).
Additionally, he has qualifications in management and leadership.
Having officially joined Bunting Magnetics last month, the BMRA-member said that Summers has immersed himself in understanding the diverse nature of its clients and the supply chain.
He has already completed a complicated project to construct a 4-pole samarium cobalt (SmCo) rotating magnetic assembly.
Summers assembled a team from members of the supply chain and the client to tackle the task.
Bunting Magnetics complimented the speed and with which the project was managed and the quality outcome for the client.
Board adviser joins Altilium to focus on strategy and programme implementation
Battery recycler Altilium has announced that
has joined its ranks as the board advisor for strategy and programme implementation.
Braime has over three decades of experience in international business development, including sectors that deal with lithium-ion batteries and engineered lithium battery materials.
He was previously chief commercial officer for Ascend Elements and executive director for business development and product strategy with A123 Systems.
He has a post graduate certification in management studies from Nottingham Trent University and a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in mechanical and production engineering from Loughborough College UK.
