Lamb explained her reasons for leaving: “It has been a great privilege to be the CEO of WRAP and the decision to leave was extremely difficult. However, the chance to be CEO of the Green Party fulfils a lifelong interest.
“WRAP is a special organisation. Its many expert and motivated people will ensure the organisation continues to grow its impact.”
The chair of WRAP, Sebastian Munden, said: “We are grateful to Harriet for all her work at WRAP and understand her decision to leave reflects a deeply held personal passion. She leaves the organisation on a strong footing with a highly capable management team and a supportive board of trustees.
“Together, we remain focused on accelerating the growth of the circular economy with all our partners and stakeholders, to make circular living the norm in every boardroom and every home.”
Lamb will leave the environmental action NGO in May – with the trustees having appointed executive search consultancy Saxton Bampfylde to look for her successor. The job listing is slated to close on 31 March 2025.
The outgoing CEO stepped into the role in March 2023, taking over from previous chief executive Marcus Gover.
She said at the time: “I look forward to scaling WRAP’s respected programmes tackling the issues of waste, carbon and water while promoting the circular economy. We can be at the forefront of making the good life, everyone’s life. It’s an enormous opportunity to unite the public, businesses and governments behind tackling climate change head-on.”
In her two years in the role, WRAP said that Lamb has led it in its “ambition to scale up change”. The organisation now has bases in the Americas, Asia Pacific and announced the creation of WRAP EU in January.
Lamb has had a successful career leading organisations that focus on social and environmental issues. She has held CEO positions at Fairtrade International, climate solutions group Ashden and peacebuilding organisation International Alert.
Welcoming Lamb to the role, Green Party co-leader, Adrian Ramsay MP, said: “I am delighted to welcome Harriet to the Green Party. She brings a wealth of experience leading and scaling up organisations centred on bringing about environmental and social justice. She evidently has the experience and passion to play a central role in growing our party and our impact towards our core mission.”
Lamb added: “I am super excited to be joining the Green Party and I am really looking forward to helping deliver the Party’s ambitious plans. I have spent my life working for charities driving social and environmental change – to end low pay, support refugees, nurturing peace in conflict-ridden countries, create the circular economy and most notably building the Fairtrade movement in the UK and globally – all values and issues dear to the Green Party and its agenda for positive change.”
