The campaign will work with residents, businesses and partners to help keep streets clean and restore pride.
As part of the campaign, the council is launching a year-long programme to continue the ‘blitz cleans’ in district centres. The next district centre to benefit will be New Addington, followed by Addiscombe.
Additionally, the council will also create “task and finish” groups to respond to residents’ clean streets concerns, for example by removing abandoned vehicles.
Residents can take part in the campaign by reporting waste problems via the Love Clean Streets app, by volunteering to become a Street Champion or by joining a Friends of Parks group.
‘Cleaner Croydon is about working together’
Jason Perry, executive mayor of Croydon, said: “The Cleaner Croydon campaign is about working with residents, businesses and partners to help put the pride back in our borough.
“Litter, graffiti and fly-tipping affect everyone. They make areas untidy and can make people feel less safe. This matters to residents and to everyone who spends time in our borough.
“As part of the campaign, we’re listening to our communities about the clean streets issues in their areas and responding with a range of initiatives, from ‘blitz cleans’, to task and finish groups tackling abandoned vehicles.
“We’ll be asking everyone to think about the small things that we can all do to make a huge difference, such as taking litter home if a bin is full or thinking about how we can reduce our waste.
“We’ll also be asking businesses and landowners to take steps to keep their properties free from graffiti and fly-tipping, helping our high streets to thrive.”
Councillor Scott Roche, cabinet member for streets and environment, added: “Cleaner Croydon is a chance for everyone to get involved in helping to keep our borough clean and create a place that we can all be proud of.
“In Croydon, we are fortunate to have so many fantastic volunteers who go above and beyond to keep our borough looking its best. From our hundreds of Street Champions who organise local litter picks, to our Friends of Parks – we’ll be showcasing them and celebrating them all as part of our campaign.
