Scheduled for completion by the end of 2021, the construction of the factory will see the company’s existing warehouses demolished, with all operations to be brought under a single roof.
The company says it currently processes and re-sells around 50,000 vehicles annually across all its sites and the new facility will allow it to process “significantly more”, though no exact figure has yet been specified.
The company’s managing director Marc Trent said: “This project is already three years in the planning with another two years to completion, so a lot still needs to be done.
“Our goal is to retrieve more product from each vehicle efficiently and to meet the growing demand for used parts globally.
“In addition, we will be increasing the very strict recycling target of 95% to as close to 100%.
“This new facility will introduce new techniques and working practices.”
To meet the demands of the factory a further 50 to 60 people are to be employed by the company, Charles Trent said.
Permission
Planning permission was granted with a few conditions, including that the development of the factory begins with the next three years.
A report by planning officer Claire Moir published at the time permission was granted concluded: “The proposals would facilitate the internalisation of existing works at the site with improved efficiency of existing operations, which will result in environmental benefits and improved relationship to neighbouring residential properties, whilst maintaining the employment character of the site.
“The proposals are wholly compatible with the use of the site and would not compromise neighbouring employment uses.”
Alongside its development of the factory, Charles Trent has commissioned a 20,000 square foot warehouse to be built at Holton Heath, a trading estate in Dorset just more than six miles from Poole.
It is estimated the warehouse will be ready by August 2020.
Once the Holton Heath warehouse has been completed work will commence on the Poole factory.
